After the tournament, Harkir had disappeared from the school, and the local authorities had still not yet found him. He had at least kept his promise before leaving though, and this combined with the respect Geki had earned from winning meant that he was no longer teased or bullied. Still, he knew that he needed to become much stronger before the next tournament, and he thought that he had a plan to do so.
"Hey Allowin, do you want to see if The Philosopher will train you? He is clearly some sort of warrior, from his armor."
    "No way."
    "Why not?"
"Because he is older than he looks."
    "What's wrong with that?"
"He's older than me, and I'm a spirit, and that just isn't right."
"How could he possibly be older than the spirits, and even if so how could you know that he is?"
"I just KNOW, okay, and it makes me uncomfortable."
"Will you at least try to train with him? Please?"
"Fine, but you owe me a LOT of candle wax for this."
During that day's recreational period, Geki left the school, and with Mina's help he made his way to The Philosopher's tower. There they found him hanging upside-down by his tail from its unstable terrace, playing a small ocarina. When he saw them, though, he stopped playing and dropped to the ground, landing nimbly despite his bulky armor. Geki bowed to him before speaking.
"Hello, Mr. The Philosopher, sir. You look like a powerful warrior, so I was wondering if you would train my spirit in combat."
The Philosopher pointed at Allowin, cocking his head slightly to the side.
"Yes, Allowin. He would be in his true form when you trained him though. Here, I'll show you."
Once Allowin had transformed, The Philosopher slowly circled the spirit, occasionally stopping to prod him with an armored claw. Having done this, he stood in front of Allowin, pointing to his wax spheres.
"I think he wants you to show him your weapons."
Allowin drew his blades, but as soon as he did The Philosopher swiftly attacked, bringing a claw downward toward Allowin's head. Instinctively, Allowin blocked it with his sword, but the blade simply shattered. The Philosopher allowed Allowin to repair the blade before speaking in a raspy, echoing voice.
"Here is my assessment: your body and blade are frail. Even the simplest blows can shatter. If you wish to win, you must play offensively, never block. Sometimes it will be necessary for you to take a hit so that you can attack, but with the right speed and strength it will be worth it. Also, you are not yet using all of your abilities. You have four more wax, and must learn to control them all at once. Also, being candle, you must learn to give flame to wax, making it stronger. Come here every day, and I will train you."
And so it became that every day during recreational period that Allowin and The Philosopher would spar, with Geki, Mina, and Flute watching. Allowin had begun to become stronger, but Geki could see that The Philosopher would always hold back, barely using a fraction of his power to defeat him. Who was this ancient Voraki, and just how powerful was he?
To beat Allowin or not to beat Allowin, that is not the question when it comes to this Philosopher.

I don't know why he's going to The Philosopher. Manuel is clearly the wisest character so far. Manuel knows about New York City, which is in a galaxy light years away.

BTW, how's your tooth doing?
